Combustible Dust

ATEX industrial vacuums for Combustible & Explosive dusts

Every production process involving combustible dusts presents specific risks related to the formation of potentially explosive atmospheres. The extraction of explosive and combustible dusts in ATEX environments is a key factor in worker safety and the protection of industrial installations.

The accumulation of dust, its dispersion, and the presence of ignition sources can compromise the safety of plants, workplaces, and operators. Inadequate management can lead to fires, explosions, accidents, deaths, environmental damage, and reputational damage.

Reference Regulations and Certifications for ATEX Dust Extraction

Regulations and standards on combustible dust define a preventive approach based on eliminating the risk at source, reducing ignition sources, and controlling dust dispersion. These principles provide the foundation for designing safe and compliant extraction systems in applications involving explosive dust.

Directive 1999/92/EC

Defines protective measures for the safety of environments and workers exposed to these risks.

Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX)

Regulates the engineering and certification of equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

The UNI EN 17348:2022 Standard

is the only standard harmonized with the ATEX directive. It introduces specific criteria for vacuum cleaners and extraction systems intended for combustible dusts and flammable liquids in zones 1, 2, 21, and 22.

The ISO IEC 62784 Standard

This is the only IECEx standard applicable to industrial vacuum cleaners intended for use in Zone 22, with EPL Dc equipment protection level.

The IEC 60335-2-69:2021 Standard (ACD)

Establishes advanced safety requirements for the collection of combustible dust in non-ATEX classified environments, reducing the risk of ignition during vacuuming operations.

The ISO 29463 and EN1822 Standards

Through the MPPS method, these standards define measurement and verification procedures for the efficiency of HEPA and ULPA filters, ensuring reliable filtration performance even in critical applications.

Double filtration level

The system is equipped with two-stage filtration designed for applications with combustible dusts. The standard Class M dissipative primary filter guarantees 99.9% efficiency and constitutes the first level of protection towards the internal Zone 20. The HEPA H14 absolute filter represents the second level, ensuring an efficiency of over 99.995% which, combined with the Dust Tight features, ensures the highest level of safety and guarantees the emission of clean air into the environment, free from ATEX risk.
The main filter is tested for explosion and collapse resistance in accordance with the new EN 17348 standard. These tests ensure reliable, long-lasting performance in heavy-duty applications and prevent the risk of tearing. The electrical resistance is less than 10# Ω, in accordance with EN 17348.

FAQ: ATEX Safety and Extraction

This is achieved by using vacuum systems with immersion neutralization technology that stabilizes metals such as aluminum and titanium, making them non-flammable.

Many food powders, such as flour and sugar, are highly flammable. An ATEX-certified vacuum system eliminates the risk of mechanical or electrical sparks during production.

These dusts can cause short circuits. Our systems use conductive materials and grounding to safely and continuously discharge energy.

We use certified automatic cleaning systems that maintain filter efficiency without requiring the operator to open the machine, preventing the dispersion of explosive dust.

This filter is tested to withstand extreme pressure (including explosion conditions) and to dissipate static electricity, ensuring maximum protection in the most demanding industrial applications.
